LA-the land of dreams. Specially, when it comes to the film and TV industry, it seems like almost everyone wants to become a star of some sort.
I'm pretty sure I've visited California multiple times but one memorable time was when I went last April to explore the city with my friends. It's one place where there is so much of Hollywood talk. This movie was made here, this star walked here, that house belongs to them, that building is theirs.. and don't get me started on the advice people give to make it big in Hollywood. It's one thing to go as a tourist but another to experience LA on your own. There's such a big difference of what the media wants you to see and what you find.
There was this time when I got in a cab to pick up my friends from the airport. It was quite a long drive so the driver was making conversation about how the day is always perfect in sunny California and there is not one day that the sun don't shine. I was very impressed, coz I love the sun and will take it any day over the cold. He kept talking and somehow we got into what brought him to LA. He's a student, getting his associates in Engineering and when he's not in school, he drives taxis to cover his expenses. I asked him if this is what he what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.. If not, what's his motivation was to come to LA (He had such a raw Jamaican accent). He said he wanted to be a writer. A hollywood writer for the best films in the States. His dream seemed so simple as he had a plan to pursue it but he also said it was not as easy as he thought it would be. He came to America almost six years ago and looked for jobs. No luck, so started looking for foot in the door gigs. All he met with was failure and rejection, over and over again. He was utterly disappointed and one day just decided to pick up a pen and start writing his own script. He said, the more I heard the word "no", the more I wanted to pursue my dream. He said, one day I know I'll become an amazing writer. Right now, he's living life, one day at a time but is also working to make his dream a reality.
LA is the land of dreams- hopeful and crushed. The more I went around the city and heard people's stories, I found out that almost everyone has a similar story. I was inspired about the taxi driver's story but I also wondered about how almost everyone wants to make it big in Hollywood but how many actually make it? What is the secret to their success? Does hard work really pay off or is it the passion to dream that drives to where you want to be? Does money play a role in it or is it all about the connections? I also thought about how many dream the same dream... how many of those dreams actually come true? Finally, how long can that fire in you burn and what would you do to keep it alive? If it dies.. will you give up?
Here's a peek at California from my camera.

ReplyDeleteHi sharon plzzz i love u sharon darling plzz u call me sharon 08110862014 u call me plzzzz ok i love u sharon darling god bless u darling
ReplyDeleteLooks like this dude really loves you, Sharon.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how small dream may be, scripture says humble yourself under the mighty hand of God and He'll lift you up.
ReplyDeleteDid you meet any celebrities there in L.A.?
ReplyDeleteOne thing I can say is people are mostly same thought out the world.
ReplyDeletethis cab driver came to LA to become a writer, like wise ...I believe in India also ...lot of people go to Mumbai to get into film industry.
What is the secret to their success? Does hard work really pay off or is it the passion to dream that drives to where you want to be?
I believe the Hard work and the passion goes hand in hand.... its like a railway track...without handwork.... just having a passion is useless.... like wise.... hard work without any passion is worthless...it will be more like a human machine.
Does money play a role in it or is it all about the connections?
Money do play a role in sometimes......More than money.... connections are more important.... NETWORKING ....NETWORKING.....
That’s the main thing any top Business school is going to teach.
I also thought about how many dream the same dream... how many of those dreams actually come true?
There is a very thin line between goals and dreams., as we say the A goal with out a plan is just a DREAM.
Any one can dream.... but only person with a proper plan and hard-work can achieve their goal.
Finally, how long can that fire in you burn and what would you do to keep it alive? If it dies. will you give up?
Prayer .... prayer...prayer.... Christ ...Christ ...Christ....if we have Christ inside us we can always keep the fire alive until we reach goal.... if it dies.... go back to basics .... lead a prayerful life....rest Jesus will take care
Hi Sharon, and yes everone think assume that LA-the land of dreams but, as I have the consciousness of winning souls, pulling them out from hell fire at any cost. I say it LA-Land of souls. Oh really! Did he had a raw Jamaican accent ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd be that positive connection which will give guidance and enable to get strength to achieve the cheerful Passion with the help of Heavenly father.
And finally, the fire in me burns till the Divine Mandate which is the Great Commission in that my part should be fulfilled, that's the only fire that keeps on burning in me even the obstacles like rain and storms toss the one who I lean to never leaves. That's My Jesus this is how I lit and ignite my fire now and then connected. And you asked if it dies, I won't give up coz the who I trust gives Life to the dead. HE GIVES LIFE, AND LIFE IN FULL.
